Part of being on the board of Dance Exchange is being able to share the exciting work they’re doing locally. Being in a military family, it was always comforting to get to dance class because that’s where people “got” me. Forget sitting alone in the lunch room or getting lost on the way to class for the millionth time. All of those worries went away as I jumped, leaped, rolled and ran with my fellow kinesthetic learners. Dance Exchange provides the same sorts of opportunities to people of any age.
The video above is Dance Exchange’s entry in the Rachel Carson Sense of Wonder contest and documents a project for older adults in Arcola Towers and ESL students from Northwood High School. Together, the participants use physicality to describe where they come from and have everyone join in and move. To me, it’s an amazing journey around the world.
If the video moves you, please take a moment to vote. Go to this link, fill out the registration form and select your choices for photos, essays, poetry, mixed media and dance. Dance Exchange’s video is in the last category, “dance,” and begins with “I Come From.”
Feel free to share and post the video if you’d like other people to experience it as well.
